Rigel is a command-line GPU miner for NVIDIA cards, aimed at home miners and rig operators who mine directly to a pool and want dual or triple mining, built-in overclocking and an HTTP API in one binary. If you searched for “rigel miner”, this page covers what the current release supports, how to write a working command line and where its limits are.
Rigel runs on Windows and Linux, works with the common mining operating systems, and shows hashrate, power, core and memory temperatures in a terminal UI. It is closed source and takes a per-algorithm developer fee, which the developers publish in the README.

What it does
- Mines 16 algorithms on NVIDIA GPUs, including KawPow (RVN, XNA, QUAI, NEOX), Autolykos2 (ERG), XelisHashV3 (XEL), SHA3x (XTM) and FishHash (IRON).
- Dual mining (for example Autolykos2, Abelian, Octopus or FishHash plus Alephium, SHA256ton, SHA3x or SHA512256d) and an extra ZIL slot on top of any single or dual combination.
- Per-GPU overclocking from the command line: core and memory offsets, locked core and memory clocks, power limit in watts, and memory tweaks for Pascal cards with GDDR5/GDDR5X.
- Thermal protection: stops a card when core or memory temperature reaches a limit and resumes after it cools down, plus a fixed or automatic fan curve.
- Failover pools, SSL connections, SOCKS5 proxy and DNS-over-HTTPS.
- HTTP JSON API for monitoring and integration with mining OS dashboards.
- A watchdog and a terminal UI with hashrate, power, temperatures and share stats.
How miners use it
Mine a single coin to a pool
- Unpack the release for your OS.
- Run the miner with the algorithm, pool URL, wallet and worker name. The pool URL format is protocol+transport://host:port.
rigel -a kawpow -o stratum+tcp://pool.example.com:3333 -u YOUR_WALLET_ADDRESS -w rig01
Add a second -o to define a failover pool. For DAG algorithms used by several coins, --coin (for example --coin rvn) avoids rebuilding the DAG when the miner switches to the dev fee and back.
Dual mine with two pools
- Join the algorithms with a plus sign.
- Prefix the pool, user and worker values with the algorithm index: [1] for the primary, [2] for the second.
rigel -a autolykos2+sha256ton -o [1]stratum+tcp://pool.example.com:3333 -u [1]YOUR_ERG_WALLET -o [2]stratum+ssl://pool2.example.com:4444 -u [2]YOUR_GRAM_WALLET -w rig01
--dual-mode lets you put individual GPUs on one algorithm only or set how much primary hashrate you are willing to give up per card.
Tune and protect the cards
- List devices with
--list-devicesto get their indices (ordered by PCI bus). - Set values per GPU as comma-separated lists; use an underscore to skip a card.
- Add a temperature limit so an overheating card pauses instead of failing.
rigel -a kawpow -o stratum+tcp://pool.example.com:3333 -u YOUR_WALLET_ADDRESS -w rig01 --lock-cclock 1500,_ --mclock 800,_ --pl 150,_ --temp-limit tc[60-70]tm[105-115] --api-bind 127.0.0.1:5000
The clock and power numbers here are placeholders, not recommendations. Start conservatively and step up one card at a time.
Install and first run
Windows: extract the ZIP to a folder of its own and put your command in a .bat file so the miner restarts with the same settings. Install a current NVIDIA driver; the 1.23.2 notes mention fixing memory temperature readings on 595+ drivers, so recent drivers are expected. If you use Rigel’s clock and power flags, do not apply a different profile from another tuning tool at the same time; set clocks in one place only.
Linux: extract the tar.gz, make the binary executable and run it from a script or a systemd service. The developers say Rigel works on most mining operating systems; there you choose it as the miner and pass the same flags as extra arguments.
Antivirus products regularly flag Rigel and other miners as potentially unwanted software, because miners get bundled into malware for hidden mining. Get the archive only from the official GitHub releases, check that it matches the release page, and if you must make an exception, limit it to the miner’s folder. Mine only on hardware you own or are authorised to use. Overclocking and power-limit changes can make a system unstable; keep a record of stock settings so you can roll back.
Limitations
- NVIDIA only. There is no AMD or Intel GPU support and no CPU mining.
- Closed source, with a developer fee of 0.7% to 2% per algorithm (0% on ZIL).
- Algorithms come and go with coin demand: 1.23.2 removed ethashb3, and the XelisHashV2-to-V3 fork needed an update. Check the release notes before relying on a coin.
- There is no graphical interface. You configure everything on the command line or through a mining OS.
- Earnings depend on electricity price, card efficiency and coin prices. Rigel does not change that maths.
Rigel vs alternatives
GMiner covers NVIDIA and AMD with similar dual-mining options but has had no new releases since early 2024, so Rigel is the more current choice for NVIDIA-only rigs. OneZeroMiner focuses on a few newer algorithms (Dynex, XelisHashV3, Qubitcoin, PearlHash) and supports AMD for XelisHashV3, so it overlaps with Rigel mainly on XEL. If you would rather not manage pools and wallets yourself, NiceHash QuickMiner sells your hashpower to NiceHash for BTC. On a farm, Rigel runs inside Hive OS alongside other miners.
FAQ
Where is the Rigel miner GitHub?
The official repository is rigelminer/rigel on GitHub, which hosts the releases, README and wiki. The website rigelminer.com has a feature overview and links to the support channels.
Does Rigel miner support AMD GPUs?
No. Rigel is built for NVIDIA GPUs only. For AMD cards use a miner that lists AMD support for your algorithm.
Does Rigel miner work on Linux?
Yes. Every release ships a Linux tar.gz build next to the Windows ZIP, and Rigel runs on the major mining operating systems.
What are the main Rigel miner commands and parameters?
The essentials are -a (algorithm), -o (pool URL), -u (wallet or username) and -w (worker). Tuning flags such as –cclock, –mclock, –lock-cclock, –pl, –temp-limit and –fan-control are documented in the README and in rigel --help.
How do I overclock with Rigel?
Pass per-GPU lists to –cclock and –mclock (offsets in MHz), –lock-cclock or –lock-mclock (fixed clocks) and –pl (watts). Use an underscore to leave a card unchanged.
Can Rigel mine Xelis?
Yes. It supports xelishashv3 for XEL with a 2% fee and a solo mode for that algorithm.
Is Rigel miner profitable?
It depends on your cards, electricity price and current coin prices. Calculate your own power cost before you commit a rig.
